The high-profile founder of a financial technology company has died of a heart attack two years after his sacking resulting from a workplace affair.
Former Wisr chief executive Anthony Nantes, 46, died two weeks ago while on holiday in Sri Lanka.
His family quietly announced his death to close friends and family, saying a service would be held in mid-May in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
The Telegraph understands Mr Nantes was just one week into his trip.
Mr Nantes’ death follows a tumultuous couple of years in both his personal and professional life.
He made headlines in August 2023, when was sacked from his position as CEO of fintech company Wisr, just days before he was charged with harassing and stalking his mistress.
Wisr said its board “had formed a view over recent months that Anthony was unable to perform the role of CEO to the level required”.
Court documents revealed Mr Nantes was married with children when he started an affair with a younger female colleague in 2019, which spanned several years.
When the mistress threatened to tell his wife, Nantes bombarded her – sending 50 emails in one day, and showing up at her home.
He was arrested and charged with stalking and spent 11 days in custody on remand before he was released to bail.
Mr Nantes tried to have the charges dealt with under mental health grounds, however, a magistrate said he “brought it on himself”, and sentenced him to a six-month good behaviour bond.
The court was told the affair and subsequent charges led to “the loss of his marriage, house, job”, revealing Mr Nantes had suffered with his mental health and had used drugs to cope.
Little is known about Mr Nantes’ life in the year prior to his death, other than that he was still living in Sydney’s eastern suburbs and had recently started playing for Manly Vale FC.
It is understood the club held a minute’s silence for him on Saturday.
