An associate of the infamous Alameddine crime clan was allegedly the target of a failed stabbing plot by two teenagers, two weeks before another youth and man returned and attacked his innocent father.
Emilio Chalhoub, an associate of Ali “Ay Huncho” Younes and also the wider Alameddine group, was allegedly the intended target of a conspiracy by two teenagers to attack him at his Guildford home in early June, which came unstuck when the youths crashed their car.
The morning of June 12 was a chaotic one in Sydney’s south-west, starting out with police being called to a drive-by shooting at the home of alleged high-ranking Alameddine member Ali Elmoubayed.
Then around the same time, they were alerted to a car crash in nearby Greystanes, from which two youths had allegedly fled the scene - only for brave bystanders to chase them down and perform citizens arrests.
Four knives, four pairs of gloves, two balaclavas and a jerry can were allegedly found in the teens car.
Police last week charged the two 17-year-olds who they allege were planning to attack Chalhoub at his home that morning.
One of the teens was charged with attempting to wound a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and attempting to assault a person intending criminal activity of a criminal group.
Despite the seriousness of the allegations against him, he was granted bail by a children’s court.
The other teenager was charged with the same offences, but was refused bail in court, and is set to reappear on Thursday, August 21.
Despite the incidents happening on the same morning, police do not suggest the two teenagers involved in the alleged Chalhoub stabbing plot were also involved in the shooting attack on Elmoubayed’s home.
While the alleged stabbing conspiracy on June 12 was derailed by a car crash, less than a fortnight later, a 15-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man allegedly went to the Chalhoub home and stabbed Chalhoub’s innocent father Bassam.
Mr Chalhoub, aged 62, was stabbed in the leg on June 24, before the two males allegedly fled.
However, they were arrested a short time later by investigators from Taskforce Falcon - the police super squad set up to stop an internal feud involving the Alameddines and associates - and both charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and assaulting a person intending criminal activity of criminal group for the alleged stabbing.
Taskforce Falcon commander Superintendent Jason Box said the alleged knifing of innocent Mr Chalhoub could have easily turned fatal.
“There’s every possibility the intent was to cause serious harm to this person,’’ he said.
“The use of a knife can lead to death as a firearm can – it’s just as dangerous in terms of what their intent was, but it was fortunate this person wasn’t killed and he could have been killed.’’
The teen and man charged over the June 24 attack on Mr Chalhoub remain before the courts.
