Don't miss out on the headlines from NSW. Followed categories will be added to My News.
All 10-week-old kitten Momo wants for Christmas is lots of hugs from a new family, and to play with the tinsel on the Christmas tree.
Momo is one of the abandoned animals the Sydney Dogs and Cats Home is asking people to take home this festive season.
The not-for-profit organisation is encouraging anyone thinking about adding a pet to their family to choose a rescue rather than purchase from a shop or breeder.
The RSPCA received almost 95,000 abandoned animals across Australia last financial year, a figure that doesn’t include the thousands of pets rehomed by local non-for-profit shelters.
Sydney Dogs and Cats Home is one of the few shelters in NSW that doesn’t place limits on an animal’s time in care. It also has a no-kill policy.
Tessa Miles, from Sydney Dogs and Cats Home, says that while many pets came from difficult circumstances, they are extremely sweet, affectionate and just want to be around people. Just like 18-month-old Boxer.
“He loves people to pat him when they walk past his kennel and he loves to play,” she said.
“He’s such a sweet and gentle-natured dog.”

BOXER
Boxer is a big, frowny sweetheart — his wrinkly eyebrows don’t do his gentle nature justice.

Boxer is a bit of a goofball and would love a big yard to play around in.
He enjoys his walks and being included in all activities.

Energetic and playful, he loves to play fetch, and with Kongs, rope toys and squeaky toys.
He loves relaxing by listening to meditation music, receiving body massages and lounging on the couch.
Ralph is still a pup so will need ongoing training. This young fellow would be suited to most homes.
VADER
Vader is confident young boy who has a lot of love to give.
He is not coping in the kennels, so will need an understanding family who can give him some time in his new home to decompress.

He is very responsive to training and would love to go to doggy training or someone who will continue working with him.

She is looking forward to going to a home where she can explore, play and grow and receive lots of love — and give love back in return.
