A Darwin public transport bus has been filmed dangerously running a red light at a busy Palmerston intersection on June 18.
Dashcam footage of the “reckless driving” shows it occurred at 4.48pm at the corner of Temple Terrace and Roystone Avenue, close to a police station.
Witness Damian Lacey slammed the bus driver’s risky move.
“The driver was not safe at all and he had more than enough time to stop,” Mr Lacey told the NT News.
“This is reckless driving at its finest.
“I would understand if it was orange light, but it was a clear red light.
“He needs to lose his job or he is going to kill someone.”
A spokesman for CDC Northern Territory, the public transport bus operator, said they were investigating the incident.
“CDC Northern Territory is aware of an incident that occurred on June 18 involving a CDC Northern Territory bus in Palmerston,” the spokesman said.
“We are currently investigating this incident.
“Our priority is the safety of our passengers, employees and other road users at all times.”
An NT Police spokesman confirmed it was an offence to run a red light.
“The NTPF can confirm that running a red light is an offence that can carry a fine and three demerit points,” he said.
“If the owner of the video wishes to make a complaint around the driving they can report online, through 131 444 or visit their local station.”
