Tropical low forecast to form in Timor Sea early next week
If Cyclone Fina wasn’t enough for the Top End a potential tropical low is forecast to form in the Timor Sea region as soon as next week. Find out more.
A potential tropical low has been forecast to form in the Timor Sea next week with Top Enders still feeling the impact of Cyclone Fina.
The Bureau of Meteorology’s seven day cyclone forecast map shows potential for a tropical low forming next week, with a very low chance it could form as soon as Sunday.
The Timor Sea region’s environmental conditions are favourable for development of a cyclone should a low form in the area in this time.
The current model shows the tropical system could move south-westward toward the Kimberly or northwest coast of the Top End.
The aftermath of Cyclone Fina is still being felt after it impacted Darwin and the Tiwi Islands just two weeks ago on November 22.
At that stage it was a Category 3 system, which fortunately drifted between the two landmasses as the worst winds at its centre were about 205km/h.
