The opening Darwin Touch Football season of 2025 delivered a thrilling set of grand finals this week with a spread of teams tasting victory.
The Darwin Crocs triumphed in the men’s Division 1 beating the Inferno Magpies 7-1 with their Kieran Roth taking the honours as player of the final on the Monday night.
In the women’s top division Sharks downed the Darwin Crocs 5-2 with Deanna Peckham taking home the player of the final nod.
Then on Wednesday Brodie Morcom was the player of the final in the Mixed Division 1 as the Inferno Magpies MX Teal beat the Darwin Crocs 6-4.
Shoshone Thompson from the Darwin Crocs was awarded the Norm Cramp Mens Best and Fairest accolade, with Tori Jenner from Inferno Magpies picking up the Pacita Bonson Womens Best and Fairest.
Kye Claney was named the Dicky Whyte Mixed Division 1 best and fairest winner after a strong season.
Touch Football NT sport operations coordinator Michael Crowe said the finals were a great wrap up to a season that had 500 participants across 59 teams.
“All the grand finals were played in good spirits and the season as a whole was really enjoyable without dramas,” he said.
“Despite some of the scores not being close it doesn’t reflect how close some of those teams on the higher end are with the quality being very good.
“Touch is very much a social sport so we lean into that aspect and try to keep things as fun and creative as we can for our participants.”
Next up for Touch Football is the NT Titles from May 2-4, which will this year include an under-14s mixed competition as youth participation increases.
Then it’s into the Palmerston season from May 14 through to late August and then the second Darwin season gets under way from September to December.
“We’re seeing a lot more junior participation on the women’s side with a lot of players joining being 15 and under,” Crowe said.
“There’s a lot of people out there doing a lot of good work bringing them into the sport and it’s an area we’re working hard to build.”
