A well-loved Top Ender who touched many lives has been remembered by the community after he was tragically killed driving home from a national 8-ball competition.

Jim Crosby had travelled to Queensland to represent the Northern Territory in a sport that had become one of his greatest passions in life.

Mr Crosby had travelled south with his wife Kate Crosby and son Ethan to compete in what had swiftly become a passion shared by the entire family.

But while driving back to the Top End the 52-year-old Territorian was tragically caught in a collision and was declared dead on the scene on the Capricorn Highway near Dingo, Central Qld on Sunday.

The Territory and wider 8-ball community have since rallied to raise more than $17k in a GoFundMe set up by Jennifer Gladman.

The money rapidly exceeded the initial goal of $15k to cover the costs of bringing Mr Crosby back to the Territory to the people and region he loved so much.

“We want to give Jim the farewell he deserves surrounded by the people who loved him, in the place he always called home,” Ms Gladman said.

“Uncle Jim touched so many lives, and the love we’ve received is a beautiful reflection of the person he was.

“Your support has brought our family so much relief during an incredibly difficult time, easing a financial strain we could not have managed alone.”

The Northern Territory eight ball association was left reeling in the wake of the loss of the lovable character who so many had come to see as part of the woodwork of the game.

Leisa Sjaardema of the Northern Territory Eight Ball Association passed on her sincerest condolences on behalf of the whole family.

“He was a beautiful man and a great friend and will be sorely missed,” she said, with an outpouring of comments from the entire community popping up in response.

Melanie Sanders from Litchfield Eightball was another to share her respects and great sadness at Mr Crosby’s sudden passing.

“Jim has been a big part of our Litchfield family for many many years and will be dearly missed,” she posted.

“In light of this, Litchfield will be postponing all matches for this week.

“We send all our love to Kate and both their families.

“Please all look after yourselves. Hug your loved ones often as we never know when that hug will be our last.”
