A MAN who allegedly attempted to break into a bottle shop overnight got his head stuck in a fence and was forced to wait for police to come to his rescue.
Southern Watch Commander Vicki Koum said police responded after a man was caught in the middle of allegedly attempting to break into a closed bottle shop in Tennant Creek at about 8.30pm Saturday.
“The man went to the bottle shop and tried to force entry into the premises by crawling under a locked gate,” she said.
“The man’s head became wedged under the gate so that his head was inside the premises and his body was protruding outside on the footpath.
“The man tried to free himself but got stuck.
“Community night patrol members happened to be passing by and saw the man that was stuck under the gate and then radioed for police assistance.”
Cdr Koum said police responded and used a metal pole to lift up the gate to free him.
The man was arrested and is expected to be charged later today.
