Batten down the hatches because Marge! The rains are here! Another taste of what’s to come this Wet Season descended on Darwin.

We’ve had our microbursts and our light showers but finally the storms have hit the Darwin CBD.

The Bureau of Meteorology recorded 6mm of rain had fallen in the gauges at both Darwin Airport and Darwin Harbour.

Curlews enjoyed a free drink while people tourists and locals alike ran for cover from the torrential downpour that beelined towards the City on Thursday.

The storm first swept through Howard Springs bringing some cool relief and then made its way down the Stuart Highway to empty the CBD streets.

Tourists Ana Silva, Adriana Maria and Francisco Rosa were among those running from the rain as they made their way from the city centre back to their accomadation.

“This is crazy, so much rain,” they shouted as they ran after being caught out by the storm.

BOM announced a severe weather warning for the Darwin City and Outer Darwin areas ahead of Thursday’s 3pm downpour.

The severe thunderstorms warning was cancelled soon after following the short but heavy bout of rain.
