A 48-year-old man was taken to hospital in a serious condition after being struck by a vehicle in Northlakes

A man has been taken to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious condition after he was struck by a car in the Top End.

A MAN has been taken to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious condition after he was struck by a car on McMillans Rd.

At 9.30pm on Thursday police were informed that a man had been struck by a vehicle travelling outbound on McMilans Rd, near the intersection of Matthews Rd in Northlakes.

Upon arrival they found an unresponsive 48-year-old man with serious head wounds and fractures to his legs and pelvis.

The pedestrian was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious condition.

The 73-year-old driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene and reported the incident to 000.

The driver returned a negative result when tested for drugs and alcohol and is helping police with enquiries.

Watch Commander Rob Overall said that both drivers and pedestrians needed to be mindful of their surroundings.

“Police would like to remind both drivers and pedestrians to be mindful of their surroundings and to be aware of other road users for their own, and others safety,” he said.

It was the last and most serious in a series of car crashes across the NT on a busy Thursday for St John NT.

Earlier at 7.45am in Alice Springs a 13-year-old girl was hit by a car taken to hospital in an okay condition with a number of face injuries.

Then at 9am a driver collided with a tree in Parap.

That was followed by another incident in Parap around 6.30pm where a car hit a pedestrian who was reported to be trapped under the vehicle with a number of leg injuries.

St John NT operations manager Craig Garraway speaking on ABC Radio said it had been a busy day for collisions.

“We had a bit going on (on Thursday) particuarly around cars and pedestrians,” Mr Garraway said.

“The incident on McMillans Rd saw a driver doing about 70-80km/h resulting in some serious injuries.

“It’s 80km/h down there so you don’t get much chance to stop so it’s sad and hopefully that person makes a recovery over the next few weeks.”

Man, 33, charged with attempted murder after Mataranka assault

A 33-year-old man has been arrested on a number of charges including attempted murder following a serious assault in Mataranka.

During the early hours of Wednesday morning an injured woman was found on the side of the road in Mataranka.

She was taken to Katherine District Hospital before being transferred to Royal Darwin Hospital due to her injuries.

The 33-year-old man was arrested later that morning and has since been charged with attempted murder, intentionally causing serious harm, breaching DVO and being armed with an offensive weapon.

The man has been remanded to appear before Katherine Local Court on Friday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Lawson called the incident an horrific assault.

“This was a horrific assault. Family violence has no place in our society and police urged anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact us on 131 444. Please quote reference number 9830700.”

Two men charged after two separate incidents of allegedly assaulting members of the police

TWO men have been charged following two separate incidents of assault of a police officer in Darwin.

At 3.30pm on Wednesday an auxiliary officer was allegedly assaulted by a 32-year-old at the Darwin Watch House.

Later at 11.30pm a constable was allegedly assaulted by a 36-year-old man while responding to an incident at a residence in Berrimah.

Both officers required medical treatment.

The two men were charged with assaulting a member of the police force.

Commander Daniel Bacon called the actions despicable.

“Attacks on our members as they go about their duties protecting and serving the community are despicable,” Mr Bacon said.

“Everyone deserves to go about their work without the fear of aggression and both these men will have to answer for that additional charge when facing court.”

Palmerston man arrested for drug, weapon offences

NT Police have charged a Palmerston man in relation to drug offences including holding a commercial quantity of ice and failing to meet storage requirements of a firearm.

On October 22 Drug and Organised Crime detectives working with Operation Crown executed a search warrant at a home in Palmerston.

There police found and seized a commercial quantity of methamphetamine, an unsecured firearm, a quantity of ammunition and four mobile phones.

The 38-year-old was arrested and charged with possession of a commercial and trafficable quantity of a schedule 1 dangerous drug, failing to meet storage requirements and contravention of emergency declaration or direction.

He has been remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court on November 16.

Detective Senior Sergeant Justin Bentley said police would continue to stop the distribution and supply of harmful drugs.

“The Drug and Organised Crime Section will continue to interrupt the supply and distribution of harmful illicit substances into the community,” Mr Bentley said.

“Owning a firearm is a privilege that needs to be taken seriously, owners need to ensure that their firearms are properly secured.”

Man ‘impaled’ on e-scooter in Darwin CBD

A MAN is in hospital after he was “impaled” on an e-scooter.

St John NT operations manager Craig Garraway said the e-scooter accident on Mitchell St was “a bit nasty”.

“I assume he’s impaled the actual scooter into his leg and obviously required for us to take him up to hospital to have further treatment, maybe even some surgery depending on how bad that injury is,” he told ABC Radio Darwin.

“He should make a full recovery but I’m not sure whether it was an e scooter or just a personal scooter but just be careful on those scooters out there, we know they can trip you up occasionally.”

Box jellyfish sting

A YOUNG boy was rushed to hospital after he was stung by a box jellyfish in northeast Arnhem Land.

St John NT operations manager Craig Garraway said the sting was an early start to the stinger season.

“A four-year-old boy near the Gove Yacht club was stung (Wednesday) at about midday,” Mr Garraway told ABC Darwin.

“Paramedics took him up to hospital where he is recovering quite well.

“Obviously those stings are quite painful and leave a nasty scar at times, so hopefully [there is] no scarring for the little fella and he makes a full recovery.”

Stolen vehicle ends up on its roof

A STOLEN vehicle used for hooning ended up on its roof and the thief running away in a busy night for NT Police.

Acting Senior Sergeant David Allen said two vehicles crashed outside of the entrance of a commercial premises on Farrar Blvd, Farrar at about 9pm on Tuesday.

“No injuries were sustained but a 19-year-old female driver of one of the vehicles returned a low range breath alcohol reading,” Sgt Allen said.

“That 19-year-old is also the subject of zero alcohol conditions and was subsequently issued a notice to appear for driving with a low range breath alcohol content.”

Sgt Allen said a stolen vehicle lost control and flipped onto its roof after outside the Darwin Cemetery on McMillians Rd in Jingili about 10pm, also on Tuesday.

“On arrival there it was discovered that a stolen motor vehicle had been hooning in the area moments before the driver lost control causing the vehicle to roll and come to rest on its roof,” he said.

“The driver fled the scene prior to the arrival of emergency services and inquiries are continuing to identify and locate that person.”

Sgt Allen said woman ran her vehicle off the road and collided with parkland fencing on Limmen St, Wagaman at about 12.30am on Wednesday.

“The 32-year-old female driver was uninjured and inquiries are continuing to determine whether drugs or alcohol were contributing factors,” he said.

Shocking weekend of crime in Alice

ALICE Springs recorded a shocking weekend of crime with 340 incidents reported over 72-hours, involving one during which rocks were allegedly thrown at a police dog.

NT Police said three youths aged 14, 15 and 15 were arrested after allegedly running from a stolen vehicle 25km north of Alice Springs along the North Stuart Hwy on Saturday.

Members from the Southern Traffic Unit, drone operations, K9 unit, general duties and Strike Force Viper co-ordinated a plan to stop the vehicle after receiving a report of a fuel drive off from Barrow Creek earlier in the day.

The vehicle was stopped after deployment of a tyre deflation device and the three occupants ran into nearby scrubland.

Two boys aged 15 and 14-years-old were arrested following a foot pursuit involving Police Patrol Dog Fitzy and the third 15-year-old boy evaded police until he was found and arrested in the area an hour later.

“Drone footage captured two youths throwing rocks at Patrol Dog Fitzy during the incident,” the statement read.

Also on Saturday, a second stolen motor vehicle was found on its side and abandoned 150m from Ali Curung.

Two 17-year-old boys wanted to relation to a series of alleged unlawful entries in the Braitling Industrial area earlier on Monday were arrested by members from Strike Force Viper and general duties in the morning.

A third boy wanted in a series of alleged property offences, including the Industrial area unlawful entries, was arrested on Monday afternoon.

Superintendent Tony Deutrom said it was a devastating weekend for police.

“It was a bad weekend with a lot of people either coming home or waking up to their home being unlawfully entered, and their property stolen,” he said.

“It is without a doubt one of the more gut-wrenching feelings to find out you’ve been broken into, and to those victims I am sorry that you’ve experienced that.

“Police continue to work hard to maintain a sense of safety within our community, and this weekend was no different.”

Investigations are ongoing into the 16 unlawful entries, three attempted unlawful entries and eight stolen motor vehicles – all of which have been recovered, which happened during the weekend.
