The search is on to replace Mindil Beach Casino Resort chief executive Sean Knights, who has accepted a once-in-a-lifetime position in the Philippines.

Casino owner Delaware North confirmed this week the search had begun to replace Mr Knights, whose tenure is expected to end late in January.

He joined Mindil Beach Casino in October 2023 after a tenure as gaming executive general manager at Crown Sydney.

He is taking up a new role at Nustar Casino in Cebu that he “couldn’t walk away from”.

“I’ve loved my time in Darwin and I wasn’t looking to leave but this opportunity came up,” he said.

“Darwin has so much to offer and there’s so much opportunity here and it just needs a couple of triggers, a couple of those bigger projects that come about. Then we start to fix ‘Brand NT’ to drive tourism to the region and we’re off to the races again.”

Under his direction, the casino has worked at re-engagement with existing customers as well as attracting new visitors.

“We spent a lot of time through our loyalty program engaging with customers and it’s always a work in progress that we’re tweaking,” he said.

“We’re always trying to provide more to recognise the value of our customers to Mindil and the loyalty we show is reflected in the loyalty our customers show.

“Mindil holds a very special place in the hearts of Darwinites. One of the best things that Delaware North did when they acquired Mindil in 2019 was to change the name back to Mindil Beach Casino Resort, which hearkened back to the early 1980s when it was first created.

“That connection to the location was a great decision.”

Delaware North managing director Australia and NZ Gary Brown praised Mr Knights’ role in the job.

“Sean has made invaluable contributions to the property over the past year and on behalf of Delaware North we thank him for his dedication and commitment and wish him well in his future endeavours,” Mr Brown said.

“Delaware North has embarked on a comprehensive search process to fill the role of general manager of Mindil Beach Casino Resort.

“As one of the largest private-sector employers in Darwin, Delaware North-Mindil Beach Casino Resort remains strongly committed to continue to be an integral part of the local community.”
