Possum vs. Water Python

The Australia Day public holiday was a source of celebration for many - but this unlucky possum took a different view.

A friend of Darwin woman Jo Jamieson captured the macabre scene as she was driving through Fannie Bay in the late afternoon for a family visit.

“A mate of mine actually filmed it and the whole possum was actually in its body and I thought I’ll come back and have a look but it had already moved on,” she said.

“I wondered how far it would get with all that weight inside it.”

While the possum was dead, grimly there were actual sounds coming from the scene as the snake gyrated its body to try and force down its outsized snack.

According to Australia Zoo, water pythons are non venomous and use their large teeth to secure prey before wrapping their body into coils to suffocate and eat their prey.

According to the Snake Catcher website, it could take the python up to a month to digest the mammal.
