A power pole was flattened and water main burst after being struck by vehicle overnight

Power and Water crews are expected to return to Bagot Rd, Ludmilla on Friday after a vehicle floored a median-strip power pole and smashed a water main overnight.

Police were called to the accident scene a few-hundred metres from the Ludmilla overpass at about 2.45am, following reports of a driver smashing into the pole, then the water infrastructure before the vehicle came to a halt about 200m along Bagot Rd.

The only occupant in the car, the driver was heading outbound on the inside lane when the he appeared to lose control of the vehicle and struck the utilities before eventually coming to a halt.

A team from Power and Water were quickly on the scene working frantically to shut down services and to make the area safe while police and ambulance crews treated the driver after the car’s airbags were activated.

At 6.30am on Friday the vehicle had been removed, the power pole was resting in pieces on the Bagot Rd median strip and the streams of water that had gushed from the burst water main overnight had been stemmed.

The driver is understood to have suffered head and neck injuries and was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment. Police said investigations were ongoing, and urged motorists to be on the lookout for PowerWater teams at the scene during Friday.

Women arrested after allegedly threatening servo employee with knife

December 2, 1.15pm: NT Police have arrested two women who allegedly threatened an employee with a knife at the Durack service station before fleeing with a number of items.

The Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received a report that the two alleged offenders had entered the services station about 8.45pm on Monday.

They there allegedly threatened an employee with a knife before stealing items and fleeing the station on foot.

Police CCTV operators tracked the two women, aged 20 and 15, through a nearby carpark and police were able to make an arrest soon after.

The 20-year-old remains in custody and is expected to be charged later on Tuesday, while the 15-year-old is expected to be dealt with via summons.

Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
