THE number of inmates inside Northern Territory prisons has reached an all-time high, the ABC has reported.
There were reportedly 1,864 prisoners across the NT’s four correctional facilities on July 31.
The Department of the Attorney-General said that figure had dropped slightly by August 9, but the prison population was still more than 160 inmates higher than at the same time last year.
It comes as the NT government last week launched the Aboriginal Justice Agreement, which outlined a wide-ranging plan to reduce to the high rates of Indigenous incarceration.
