The government’s NT Economic Strategy 2025 lays out the CLP’s vision to strengthen enabling infrastructure along the way to delivering population, developmental and economic growth.

The Department of Logistics and Infrastructure is in the process of delivering strategic enabling infrastructure projects to back up the expanding onshore gas industry and other key economic sectors.

When delivered, the Middle Arm precinct aims to capitalise on the Territory’s access to natural gas, critical minerals and renewable energy to grow manufacturing and boost economic growth.

The NT Economic Strategy makes the point water supply will be critical as the Territory grows on the back of projects like the Beetaloo Basin and Middle Arm.

The Department of Logistics and Infrastructure is in the middle of delivering the Darwin Region Water Supply Program, which includes the Manton Dam return to service and the Adelaide River Off-stream Water Storage.

The AROWS project offers a sustainable, reliable and adaptable water source solution for the next 100-years.

Located north of Lake Bennett, AROWS proposes to use a naturally occurring basin within a ridge formation next to Adelaide River.

The project is designed to supply about 60.2 gigalitres of water annually to the Darwin region, enough to meet demand for the next 50 years.

It will also provide a reliable water source for key development areas, including the Lambells Lagoon Agribusiness Precinct and Middle Arm.

Now entering a feasibility phase, the Territory Energy Link is another piece of enabling infrastructure the government will prioritise in coming years.

The energy link is intended to link global supply chains for energy and other technologies by providing a 670km buried services corridor to carry gas, water, optical fibre, hydrogen gas and other services.

The corridor will connect major energy projects in the Beetaloo Sub Basin to Middle Arm Precinct and other strategic infrastructure in Darwin.

Backed by $440 million from the Commonwealth, a network of regional logistics hubs will help develop an efficient logistics network across the NT.

With a focus on upgrading the capacity of the existing rail network, the project will strategically locate terminals, rail sidings, warehousing and other enabling infrastructure along the Darwin-Tarcoola rail line.

As well, $433.69 million has been committed under the Industry Roads Program to deliver upgrades to the Stuart Highway, Carpentaria Highway, Western Creek Road, Gorrie Dry Creek Road and the Sandover Highway.
