A classy PINT outfit have proved themselves a side on the bounceback, dominating Palmerston from the outset in a lightning interrupted face-off.
The Greenants proved they had regained a foothold on the season last round when they ran league leaders Southern Districts incredibly close.
They carried that form into their round 5 match-up against Palmerston, when the lightning rule almost saw the game canned at half time.
However, they came back with the same fight and intensity in a scrappier second half to keep the Magpies down, 12.9 (81) to 3.6 (24).
The Greenants were served well from their conquering defensive structure, led by the likes of Benjamin Smyth and Harry McKimmie.
Thomas Schott was a significant force through the middle, often winning the ground ball game, alongside Riley Mayne, whose big frame proved a winning formula.
Former Essendon player Nick Hind tried to inject some urgency into the Magpies set, winning the clearance battle as the rain came down.
It was a late momentum shift for Palmerston in the second quarter that was capitalised on by the work rate of vice-captain Ryan Warfe and Cameron Nyko, who were quite literally everywhere.
Then slightly after the half time siren went, five more went signalling a lightning warning and half an hour until the game either restarted or was cancelled.
Because the warning had been sounded after half time it meant PINT would have won there and then by their 28-point margin at the time, so Palmerston players waited tentatively.
Then against early speculation the umpires walked back on and the game resumed to a quarter with much more fight.
Though it was again PINT that got the points on the board and continued to dominate despite it being scrappier as Palmerston found more inroads.
“We actually thought the game was going to get called off and had the mentality it would, but when the time came we responded well,” Schott said.
“It came down to us having done so well up to that stage that we just wanted to cap off our game and give a full four quarter effort.
“For us it was good to implement what coach Mark Whiley had preached to over the past few weeks, with his new system to our club.
“Our showing against Crocs last week showed we can push the top teams in the competition, and this wins means we’re starting to get a bit of momentum and hopefully we can build on that.”
New Magpies skipper Shaun Wilson showed the way for his side on his return from injury, but it was only trading blows while they shot themselves in the foot several times with ill-discipline.
The Greenants, meanwhile, finished with gusto just as eager to win after the lengthy break as before, and getting plenty from pretty much their entire unit.
Andrew Jones kept the goals coming, while Cooper Whitehill and Jaxsyn Whitehill both made strong impressions around the usual Greenants performers.

PREVIEW
PINT managed a positive defeat last time out and it’s that momentum they need to maintain if they’re to compete in finals again, but first on their to do list is beat Palmerston.
The Greenants and Magpies are in a very similar boat, with only one win from the first four rounds and staring down the barrel of their season slipping away.
The NT News and KommunityTV will stream every moment from 4.30pm on Saturday.
PINT played their best game of the season coming back from looking on track for a heavy loss to almost beating top side Southern Districts, outpointing the Crocs 43-15 in the second half.
While they couldn’t quite claw back all of the 38-point half-time deficit, it’s a second-half performance the Greenants should take plenty from, even if it is just around the impressive fitness levels in their ranks.
Thomas Schott and Thomas Reeves have been two of the PINT standouts so far this season, while Riley Mayne has played an important role both in the ruck and further forward.
Palmerston were unable to convert their first win in 20 months to back-to-back victories on their home track, but will be eager to make amends for the missed opportunity.
The young squad is growing in confidence with Ryan Warfe and Cameron Nyko both in the side’s best in each game, while Victorian journeyman Nayef Hamad has been a huge recruiting coup this season.
