It wasn’t the prettiest of victories but PINT scrapped their way through to an all-important victory in their clash against the winless Darwin Buffaloes.

The Greenants managed to keep their slim finals hopes intact for another week, and the defensive stoush they showed in the second half will have plenty of other sides a touch nervous.

PINT kept the Buffs goalless after the main break, with only four behinds troubling the scorers at that end, as the Greenants kicked clear to an 8.11 (59) to 3.5 (23) win.

Harry McKimmie made it two straight games on the scoresheet, picking up two goals for the Greenants, while former Victorian representative player Jack Parker also added two of his own in only his second game in the league.

However, there were scoring struggles reminiscent of their last visit to the Cazalys Arena against Palmerston in Round 10, where they kicked 8.19, including 15 behinds in a row.

The Greenants kicked off the game playing a style of Jurgen Klopp’s ‘Heavy Metal Football’ as they swarmed the Double Blues, throwing up four men to each contest at the back and up front.

Darwin had no reply to this pressure, conceding a litany of unforced errors on the goal line and at the back allowing PINT’s energizer bunny Cameron Wilson to roam free.

PINT continued this frantic play into the second but were countered by Darwin, led by the ever-impactful Jarrod Stokes who burrowed his side out of the deficit, bringing the match within distance.

The Greenants had a resurgent third term through refuelled tanks, applying that pressure at similar levels to early on in the piece.

The Buffaloes continued to flounder inside their own 50, often playing unnecessary lateral balls, allowing the PINT men to box them in even tighter.

Cameron Stokes and Matt Campbell breathed life into the Buffaloes in the last 20, a period that saw the Greenants go scoreless.

Though it was scrappy, PINT did what was required for the victory, something captain Thomas Schott was appreciative of.

“We have a kicking hoodoo whenever we play at Cazalys and it struck again,” he said.

“We went in with a plan of playing in their faces and smothering them off the ball which worked in that first quarter.

Schott said the work of Wilson in the middle was a big reason for his side’s four points, but they need to build on this result moving forward if they are to play finals.

“He’s a huge inclusion in this team, we love him and he just doesn’t let up all game long,” Schott said.

“Looking ahead our skills have been the core thing letting us down each weekend and breaking down in critical zones on the field have let us down against the top sides.”

PREVIEW

PINT might be playing for pride in the second half of the NTFL Premier League season, but don’t be fooled into thinking the Greenants are about to lie down against their opponents.

That starts this weekend when PINT clashes with fellow Premier League strugglers Darwin Buffaloes.

The NT News and KommunityTV will stream every moment of this clash from 6pm on Saturday.

PINT made history last year when they pushed their way into finals in just their second season in the Premier League, however there has been a drop in results in 2024-25.

They’ve had their standouts from captain Thomas Schott to Christopher Nield and Elliot Chalmers, but have struggled for consistency this season. Especiallt in front of the sticks.

The Greenants have only kicked more than 10 goals twice, against bottom sides Palmerston and Darwin, despite their ability to stick in contests against tougher sides.

The Buffaloes haven’t had the season they would have wanted either sitting bottom without a win after 12 rounds and with few shots left to finally claim a W.

Jarrod Stokes has been sensational all season and would deserve a win for his efforts, while Tom Simpson has been an effective recruit just unable to help his side out of their funk.

This is one of those chances to rise and show they have some fight, but PINT are a defensively solid unit and will make life difficult.

Watch the full replay at the end of the game.

The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to live stream both the men’s and women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
