Aussie road rules you’ve probably never heard of

A KNIFE-wielding man has been arrested by off-duty police after a terrifying incident in an Alice Springs market on Sunday morning.

A spokesman for Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services said the incident unfolded at 10.48am on Sunday during the Todd Mall Markets.

“The markets were in full swing, were full of people,” he said.

Police said CCTV showed a man chasing another person with a knife and “trying to stab them in the middle of the markets”.

“He was approached by two off-duty members who approached him and disarmed him,” he said.

Video footage showed the knife making contact but it is not known if it actually penetrated the victim.

The man was arrested at the scene but the other person has not been found.

Major search for missing 9-year-old

AN OVERNIGHT search for a missing nine-year-old girl has ended in joy with Ryelleh to be reunited with her loved ones.

Ryelleh, who is non-communicative back and responds with some sign-language and pre-speech phase, was officially reported missing by NT Police at 7.30pm, Saturday.

NT Police said she was last seen that afternoon leaving her home in Wulagi heading towards Vanderlin Dr.

Police said they held a great concern for the young girl, who could be triggered by loud noises, avoided dogs and was known to run on the road against traffic.

Police said it was likely she could be asleep in someone’s front yard or couch, was known to drink out of people’s front yard taps or fridges and liked to sit on telecommunication boxes.

The call for information on social media was met with a rallying cry to find her, with the post shared more than 1000 times, with hundreds of comments updating police on the search effort.

Thirteen hours after the official missing person alert NT Police announced Ryelleh had been found.

“We received a call from a helpful member of the public,” a spokesman said.

“Thank you to all those who assisted police with their inquiries to help achieve this excellent result.”
