NT Bus Tracker app rolls out, with live tracking and improved trip planning
A new app allows for real-time tracking of buses, improved trip planning, and notifications of bus arrivals and upcoming stops. Here’s what you need to know.
A new Northern Territory bus tracking app has rolled out, allowing for real-time tracking, improved trip planning, and notifications of bus arrivals and stops.
Passengers can now better plan their travel and save time with the app providing real-time information about buses – initially in Darwin and Palmerston, with Alice Springs soon to also come online.
Logistics and Infrastructure Minister Bill Yan said the NT Bus Tracker app was a key part of the government’s Bus Safety Reform Strategy.
That strategy involves the closure of Casuarina and Darwin bus interchanges by mid-October in an attempt to reduce anti-social behaviour, more CCTV at known hotspots, duress alarms on-board buses, and direct radio connections between drivers and Transit Officers.
A full review of the Darwin and Palmerston bus networks is also underway with a focus on reducing wait times, improving routes, and reviewing some low-patronage late-night services.
Bus travel will remain free indefinitely as an interim measure to prevent bus drivers from being targeted for carrying cash.
The department is working to identify a ticketing system that suits the Territory transport network.
“We continue to build a public transport system that better serves Territorians by enhancing service delivery for passengers and drivers,” Mr Yan said.
The new NT Bus Tracker app is available for download on the Apple App Store starting August 1, and roll out on Google Play is anticipated to follow soon after.
The existing app will remain operational and accessible until mid-September.
