A disqualified drink driver who has been found guilty of driving under the influence at least six times before has been busted for high range drink driving overnight.

A DISQUALIFIED drink driver who has previously been found guilty of driving under the influence at least six times before was busted for high range drink driving last night, and while he had another able and sober driver in the car.

NT Police Northern Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Sonia Kennon said the man was driving a car carrying a number of passengers and family members when he returned a high range breath test.

“Last night a 44-year-old male, travelling south from Darwin, drove through Adelaide River and was subjected to a random breath test, providing a positive result for a high range drink driving offence,” she said.

“At the time of his arrest, there were other family members in the vehicle, including a sober driver.”

Snr Srgt Kennon said upon inspection, the man had been busted drink driving a number of times before and had been disqualified from driving last year.

“A review of the 44-year-old’s criminal history identified that he was disqualified from driving for a period of five years in August 2020 for the same offence, and that he has previously been found guilty of drink driving at least six times,” she said.

“His disregard for the safety of his family and other road users is disappointing and frustrating.”
