An “irregularly shaped” plot of land in the Alice Springs industrial area could become the town’s newest stock shop, if a development application for the site is approved.
South Australia firm Laucke Mills is looking to move out from its current Elder St premises in Alice Springs and move closer to the Stuart Highway.
The company has filed a development application for a new store on a block on the corner of McDonald and Colson St in Ciccone, which has sat empty for some time.
On the site, the business is planning to construct a single-storey shed which will “sell a broad range of agricultural materials including stock feed and pet product,” according to the statement of effect produced by Masterplan principal planner Nick Kearns.
The business would also sell hay bales, flour, and stock supplements, with 20 onsite parking spaces and a loading bay proposed for the “irregularly shaped” block of land, Mr Kearns’ statement of effect said.
The new shop will operate same the time as the Elder St store – between 8.30am to 5.30pm and on Saturday mornings – and will also deliver goods.
Previously, the McDonald St property was used as a storage yard for cars.
According to its website, Laucke Mills has been in Alice Springs since 1985.
The company traces its roots back to 1899, when Friedrich Laucke established a mill in Greenock in South Australia’s Barossa Valley, the website states.
