A popular Darwin swimming spot reopened just in time for the Easter long weekend.
Lake Alexander reopened to the public on April 17 — nearly a month after it closed on March 19 due to water quality issues.
The East Point swimming spot was closed in March due to elevated levels of bacteria.
It was also closed in January after a similar bacteria scare.
Darwin mayor Kon Vatskalis said the water quality had been tested, with the results meeting the NT Recreational Water Quality Guidelines, meaning the lake is again safe to swim in.
“Water quality testing of Lake Alexander is frequently undertaken and the lake reopens when results meet recreational guidelines,: Mr Vatskalis said.
“However, it is important to note water quality in the lake may deteriorate following heavy rainfall and as a general precaution it is recommended to avoid swimming for up to three days after heavy rain.”
The lake closed a number of times in 2024 due to possible shark sightings and high levels of bacteria.
