The Northern Territory Chamber of Commerce has appointed experienced industry advocate and long-time Territorian Katherine Winchester as its new chief executive.
Formerly a 16-year head of the NT Seafood Council, Ms Winchester will begin transitioning on Monday into the role left vacant by outgoing chief executive Greg Ireland.
Mr Ireland announced his resignation in early October prompting an extensive search for a replacement to the highly sought-after industry position.
Chamber president and board chair Natasha Griggs said Ms Winchester’s appointment marked a new chapter for the chamber and its members.
“Katherine is a dynamic and passionate leader who deeply understands the unique challenges and opportunities facing businesses in the Northern Territory,” Mrs Griggs said.
“Her proven track record in advocacy, stakeholder engagement and delivering results makes her an outstanding choice to lead the chamber. We’re thrilled to welcome her to this role.”
Mrs Griggs said the new chief executive was well-known for her ability to collaborate, build strong relationships and drive positive change.
“She brings a deep commitment to the Territory and a clear vision for supporting local businesses and fostering economic growth.”
Ms Winchester said she was looking forward to the challenge of beginning the new job on Monday.
“I am honoured to take on the role of CEO at the NT Chamber of Commerce,” Ms Winchester said.
“I look forward to working with the board, industry councils, our members, and stakeholders to ensure the chamber continues to evolve and provide impressive, inspirational initiatives.
“The NT Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to advocating for policies that promote
business success and sustainability. I am thrilled to bring my experience and passion for
governance and advocacy to this role.
“This is a unique opportunity to build on the chamber’s strong foundation. My focus will be
on strengthening relationships, delivering value to our members, and driving forward the
strategic priorities that will shape and support our business community.”
Ms Winchester was the Territory’s longest-serving industry leader when she stepped-away from her marathon role with the NT Seafood Council earlier this year.
Her appointment represents a changing of the guard for NT Chamber, with women now holding key roles within the organisation.
As well as Ms Winchester and Mrs Griggs, Alice Springs-based Nicole Walsh is chief operating officer and Natalie Bell is the vice president and deputy chair.
