“Paramedics on arrival came across the two-year-old girl. She was conscious on our arrival but was taken to hospital, so very lucky there,” Mr Garraway told ABC Darwin.

“These things unfortunately happen and we do our best to stop these things as parents but just be pool wise.”

Eight youths arrested following alleged car thefts

EIGHT youths have been arrested following alleged car thefts in the CBD and Darwin’s north overnight on Sunday.

Police received reports that a green Toyota HiLux, Mitsubshi ASX and a white Toyota Corolla were stolen from The Esplanade, Tiwi and Nightcliff respectively.

The HiLux was understood to have been involved in an unlawful entry at a Winnellie business on Benison Rd and an attempted unlawful entry at a Howard Springs business on Whitewood Rd, police say.

Four youths, aged between 12 and 15, were arrested in Karama following a police pursuit of the Mitsubishi that began in Palmerston around 1am on Monday.

Then, at 2.40am, officers located the Corolla on McMillians Rd, and after deploying a tyre deflation device, the car came to a stop near Lakeside Drive in Alawa a short time later, police say.

A further four youths, aged between 11 and 15, were arrested at the scene.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier said charges were expected to be laid later today in relation to the events.

However, the HiLux remains outstanding and anybody with information should call 131 444.

“These stolen vehicles were being driven in a manner that was incredibly dangerous for everyone who was on the roads at the time. It was just lucky no one was injured or killed,” Senior Sergeant Cottier said.

Northern Watch Commander Len Turner said the incident around 11pm was one of three, where other cars were stolen from Nightcliff and Tiwi residences over Sunday night.

Police spotted the stolen car and began a pursuit through the rural Darwin area into the northern suburbs where a tyre deflation device was successful in stopping the vehicle.

Four boys between the ages of 12 and 15-years-old are in custody.

Police reports say multiple businesses, including Winnellie Cellars, were broken into across the Top End as well.
