A suite of upgrades is proposed for the popular Howard Springs Tavern and bottle shop, including a larger kids’ play area and extended amenities.

An application for development permit, lodged by in4D, showed the proposed upgrades aimed to improve security and “make Howard Springs Tavern a more attractive venue”.

A larger kids area, additional roof structure to the rear outdoor areas and a new hard canopy between the bottle shop and tavern are proposed.

The application includes a reconfiguration of the dining room bar area, kitchen, dry store food prep and serving areas, the public bar serving areas, cold rooms, cash room and TAB bar area.

A reconfiguration of the main carpark and creation of new carparks is also proposed.

“The proposed changes to the development will make Howard Springs Tavern and the commercial centre more attractive to patrons,” the application read.

“Increasing the size of the children’s playground makes the tavern more attractive to families with young children in Howard Springs.

“Additional motorcycle parking will provide for a broader range of patron, while the increase in carparks means that the development will be able to handle more patrons.

“These carparks can also be utilised by existing and future businesses during the tavern’s off hours.”

Other upgrades include extending the existing bottle shop to include dry and cold rooms, extending the tavern to add office spaces, a keg room and storeroom. It will also remove six existing shipping containers on site once the bottle shop extension has been complete.

“By increasing the storage capacity of the bottle shop the existing shipping containers will be removed from the various locations on site resulting in improved security of stock, improved visual amenity and energy savings as the proposed extension will have a more energy efficient building envelope,” the application read.

Howard Springs Tavern is one of many venues across the Territory planning upgrades to amenities.

In September, recipients for round three of the Northern Territory’s Roadhouse to Recovery grants program included $135,768 for Kings Creek Station.
