The Darwin Cricket Club has dismissed one of its players for the season as police investigate an alleged incident at training.

A Darwin cricketer has been removed from the club in all forms for the remainder of the season following an incident with another player at training.

NT Police are investigating a physical confrontation at Darwin Cricket Club at Kahlin Oval on July 27, though no charges have yet been laid.

However, the cricketer can return in 2024 if he performs community service with the Eagles, a letter to the other player involved revealed.

This publication understands the player went to police to make a statement on the day of the incident.

Meanwhile, the club described the incident as “poor behaviour” and the cricketer was now facing “serious consequences”, the letter revealed.

It is understood some members of the club also requested to provide witness statements.

“The club acknowledges what (allegedly) happened at training two weeks ago was an unfortunate incident between two players,” the letter stated.

“We understand and accept your position to take this further to the police and as such the cricket club will distance itself from this until required.

“We do accept that there was no punishment required for your involvement in this matter.

“The club did reach out over the days/weekend to see if you were OK.

“You had chosen to make a formal statement with the police and take a break from the cricket club.

“You did not wish to take up these offers of support which was your prerogative and were not judged for this.

“The club did not request you leave your senior cricket or junior coach roles but understood your need for time away.

“You were offered mediation (with the other player) who did reach out to apologise and seek reconciliation.

“You did not wish to take up this offer which is your prerogative and were not judged for this.”

An NT Police spokeswoman said it was investigating the matter and no arrests had been made or charges laid.

The incident allegedly occurred nearly three weeks after an off-field fight between a Darwin player and a Southern Districts official on July 8.

It came after the Crocs had declared late on day one of their Premier Grade match at the same ground.

Both men copped lengthy bans from the league after the matter was initially referred to the national sports tribunal.
