Cyclone Alfred is Darwin windfall with Cunard’s Queen Anne extending stay

Tropical Cyclone Alfred may have wreaked havoc in South East Queensland but it has proved to be an unexpected windfall for Darwin with Cunard’s latest vessel, Queen Anne extending its Darwin stay by an extra day.

The Queen Anne is carrying. 3000 passengers and 1200 crew which means some very happy businesses with passengers spending time wandering the Darwin Mall shopping and eating or heading off to feed the crocs, or enjoying hop-on hop-off bus or seeing our other tourist attractions.

The Queen Anne is 320 metres long and 35 metres wide and 64 metres high above the waterline.

The first new ship in the Cunard cruise line’s fleet in 14 years, it is on its first Australian visit as part of its 107-day maiden World Voyage.

Cunard has made history with the appointment of Inger Klein Thorhauge as the first female captain of Queen Anne.

Having started her career as a Second Officer on Cunard’s Vistafjord in 1997, she has risen through the ranks to command both Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth before taking the helm of Queen Anne.

Queen Anne is now the 249th ship to sail under the Cunard flag and is a state-of-the-art ocean liner, setting new standards in hospitality and on-board experiences.

The ship lists 14 decks, however deck 13 does not exist is because of superstitions with the number.

The cruiseliner has 15 dining venues ranging from casual fare to gourmet indulgences.

The Queen Anne is among 25 cruise ships docking in Darwin between February until the end of April bringing close to 33,000 tourists.
