CDU’s 7m CBD hole dug out, ready to be filled in and turned into two-storey car park

Excavation of the Charles Darwin University’s CBD site has been completed, with a 73m wide, 71m long, 7m-deep hole ready to be turned into a two-level carpark.

EXCAVATION of the Charles Darwin University’s CBD site has been completed, with a 73m wide, 71m long, 7m-deep hole ready to be turned into a two-level carpark.

CDU Vice-Chancellor Scott Bowman said putting the campus in the heart of the city rather than the city’s outskirts would remodel Darwin’s profile.

“We’ve got so many plans for this campus, we’re going to have business law, we’re going to have Indigenous futures based in here … we’ll be right here in the city working with businesses and community organisations,” he said.

Jobs and Training Minister Paul Kirby said the project was a major win for jobs and the NT economy.

“The Education Precinct is the centrepiece of the Darwin City Deal, with the construction phase delivering 730 jobs, and the precinct forecast to provide a $600m boost to our economy,” he said.

The construction phase of the project is expected to begin in the middle of the year and run until late 2023.
