The first molecules of gas produced commercially from the Beetaloo Sub-basin could deliver significant ongoing benefits for the Northern Territory economy.

Business Minister Robyn Cahill visited a top Territory manufacturing business on Monday morning to spruik the economic benefits of gas.

She said as gas flowed offshore into the Territory from the Barossa project and was extracted from the Beetaloo Sub-basin, business would see the wider benefits that would flow from production.

“Both those fields are incredibly important for the Northern Territory and we will see over the next couple of years, as these come online, just what the benefits will be,” she said.

“It’s been very unfortunate that in the past 15 years or so that we haven’t seen the environment created to make it possible for those industries to progress.

“Once you open the door for one, and once you demonstrate how straightforward it is, and how much easier it is to do business in the Territory, the rest will follow.”

Ms Cahill was visiting Steeline GRP to urge Territory businesses to attend a Government-led supply chain business delegation to the Energy Exchange Australia 2025 event.

“This is an important industry platform for Territory businesses to connect, collaborate and engage in meaningful conversations with key national and international gas operators and contractors,” she said.

Mike Apathy, Steeline GRP special projects manager, said EXA gave Territory businesses the chance to promote their manufacturing and advanced manufacturing capacity.

“We get to talk face-to-face with stakeholders and understand their projects, understand their timelines and to develop strategies on how we will engage with them moving into the future,” he said.

“It also provides us with an opportunity to engage with established relationships that they have with providers and service providers and suppliers, and that gives us the opportunity to break into that market, build relationships and develop collaborative agreements with those service providers so we can bring the oil and gas companies into the Territory.

“A lot of the stuff that we’re doing here at Steeline GRP hasn’t been available in the Territory in the past and a lot of the energy companies wouldn’t know this capability existed.

“Attending the conference gives us a real opportunity to demonstrate a capability not only for Steeline GRP, but also for manufacturing across the Territory.”

The EXA will take place in Perth from March 11-13.

Businesses have until January 31 to submit an expression of interest to travel with the NT Government at https://forms.office.com/r/e3KWn8Npif
