A 43-year-old father fatally crushed between a trailer and a power pole on the Gold Coast has been hailed as “a great man” by friends and family following his sudden death.

Alex Lemus-Cornejo sustained “life-threatening traumatic injuries” when he was pinned against a power pole on Bushmead St, Nerang about 11.50am on Wednesday. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, he couldn’t be saved.

“Alex – a good friend, a good guy.”

It’s believed the father had been unsuccessful in an attempt to reverse a car uphill to hitch the trailer before the incident on Wednesday. He had attempted to bring the trailer down to the car by hand when it went horribly wrong.

Neighbours reported that bystanders had attempted to perform CPR on Mr Lemus-Cornejo before emergency services arrived on scene.

The Queensland Police Service Forensic Crash Unit attended the scene overnight and will investigate the circumstances leading up to the fatal incident.

A man has died on the Gold Coast after being crushed

Queensland Ambulance Service told this masthead they were called to an address at Bushmead St, Nerang, at 11.52am to reports of a “pedestrian and trailer incident”.

One patient, a 43-year-old male, was assessed for “life-threatening traumatic injuries” after he became trapped between a lamppost and trailer which had rolled down a hill.

Queensland Police Service confirmed emergency services located the 43-year-old man suffering significant internal injuries. He died shortly after.

It’s understood the victim had been trying to attach a trailer to his car on Auster Crt but had been unable to reverse his car up the hill.

He then tried to bring down the trailer by hand when it lost control.

A tyre mark about 2m long could be seen on one of the neighbouring property’s front lawns where the trailer appeared to have lost control.

A witness said there was blood coming out of the man’s ears, nose and mouth.

“I heard a lot of screaming,” he said.

The witness said two people performed CPR on the man but he sadly couldn’t be saved.
