A young doctor has been killed after chasing attackers following a home invasion in Melbourne.

Ash Gordon, 33, was stabbed and hit by a car after pursuing a group of thieves who broke into his Doncaster home, in Melbourne’s east on Saturday, 9News reports.

The beloved GP was found by police on Eildon Street about 5.30am, less than a kilometre from his home, and died at the scene.

Dr Gordon’s partner had called police as the home invaders stole items including laptops and shoes, according to the Herald Sun.

No arrests have been made.

Dr Gordon, a skin specialist, has been remembered as a “great doctor” who was “loved by so many”.

“Ash was one of the nicest, most humble guys you could meet,” his close friend Jovanne Pieterse told the Herald Sun.

“He had this energy that would light up any room, and was dearly loved by so many.”

Flowers and a heartbreaking note left at Eildon St on Sunday described the 33-year-old as a “true gentleman”.

“Intelligent, honest, compassionate, friendly, generous … I don’t think there is one positive characteristic I could leave out,” one note written by friend Daniel Fahry read.

“Gone way too soon, brother. I truly thank you for all that you helped me with.”

The close friend said he hoped the attackers would “rot in hell”.

Inspector Carlie Kohler said homicide squad detectives were investigating Dr Gordon’s death.

“It is understood that this male was the victim of an aggravated burglary on Sargent Street in Doncaster before being located,” Inspector Kohler said.

“I want to reassure the public that we have increased out patrols and our presence in the community and we will continue to do so.

“This is a tragic set of circumstances, and our thoughts are with his friends, family and community.”

One neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous described the ordeal as “terrifying”.

“No amount of material is worth a life, so I think that’s the sad part of it,” he told the Herald Sun.

Dr Gordon owned Redefine Aesthetics, a Richmond-based clinic which specialises in skin and anti-ageing.

The company website noted the 33-year-old had “experience in many facets of medicine” and believed “in forming strong relationships with his patients that value honesty and transparency in all aspects of the treatment”.

His death comes after an elderly couple living on the same street were burgled in November and a woman living next door to Dr Gordon had her car stolen from her garage on Wednesday.

Residents also reported hearing youths partying in the days before the home invasion.

Police have said the incidents are not linked.

Patrols have been ramped up in the area as investigations continue.
