Townsville man accused of historic interstate sexual assault on young girl

A TOWNSVILLE man has been charged with child sex offences more than 12 years old after the alleged assaults occurred.

New South Wales Police allege the man sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl in her home in Lavington, near Albury on the NSW border with Victoria.

It will be further alleged the man was known to the victim.

On Monday the man was issued with a Future Court Attendance notice, charged with four counts of sexual intercourse with a person aged over 14 and under 16 years and two counts of aggravated indecent assault.

Officers from the Townsville Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Unit assisted detectives from Murray River Police District track down the alleged sex offender.

The man is due to appear in Albury Local Court on Tuesday, December 18.
