Prime Minister Scott Morrison has been filmed washing a woman’s hair at a Melbourne salon in what has been described as a bizarre photo opportunity to win voters.

Dressed in an apron and a mask, Mr Morrison massaged the customer and sprayed water on her head over a basin on Friday, as the salon owner gave him some tips.

During his visit, Mr Morrison — who was there to promote the government’s JobTrainer apprentices scheme which has put 313,000 more people into training — washed the hair of Courtnie Trotter, 22, a first year apprentice at Coco’s salon.

“It was very gentle. He did a good job for a first go,” she said.

The manager of Coco’s salon Nick said the Prime Minister gave it a go.

“Does he have a future in hairdressing? Unfortunately I don’t think we could afford him,” he said.

The extraordinary encounter comes after the PM endured a horror week that started with a Newspoll showing the Government trailing behind Labor by a massive 12 points.

Then on Tuesday he was grilled by journalists at the National Press Club where he admitted making several errors during the pandemic but refused to apologise.

He failed to name the price of bread, petrol and rapid tests, and also admitted he didn’t know the cost of milk.

Then texts from 2019 were leaked where Gladys Berejiklian allegedly called him a “horrible, horrible person” and a mystery Minister branded him a “complete psycho”.

During the Black Summer bushfires former NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian allegedly accused Mr Morrison of playing “petty” politics while “lives were at stake” in an explosive private text message exchange with a Liberal cabinet minister.

In a statement, Ms Berejiklian reiterated her “strong support” for Mr Morrison. She did not deny making the comments but said she had “no recollection of such messages”.

“I understand there has been some commentary today concerning myself and the PM. Let me reiterate my very strong support for Prime Minister Morrison and all he is doing for our nation during these very challenging times,” Ms Berejiklian said in the statement.

“I also strongly believe he is the best person to lead our nation for years to come.”

The unveiling of the texts has been linked to an internal Liberal Party struggle in NSW where several key seats still don‘t have candidates for the May election.
