News Corp Australia, publisher of the Cairns Post, with the support of Seven News and Australia Post, is calling on readers to nominate the unsung heroes in their community for this year’s campaign.
Previous award winners across the country have touched hearts, changed lives and made their communities a better place to live.
Megan Brown has been nominated for a Pride of Australia medal for her brave actions in June.
The paramedic was returning to Townsville after working a shift in Cairns, when she came across a horrific crash on the Bruce Highway at Cardwell, south of Mission Beach.
A vehicle carrying Bingil Bay couple Gemma Cosgrave, 37, and Steven Arthur, 34, and baby son Jackson had collided with a B-double at high speed.
“The car was already well involved in fire at that point and the truck was burning as well,” she said. “I had a look and I could see the baby had some injuries.”
She called in a chopper. Nothing could be done for the couple, but little Jackson has recovered from his injuries.
You can nominate anyone in your community who has inspired you through their dedication, initiative, courage or acts of charity.
Nominations for the Pride of Australia Awards close on October 21. Nominate a local hero at prideofaustralia.com.au
