GOLD Coast City councillors have begun getting a briefing on the proposed 2032 Olympic bid by Australian Olympic Committee president John Coates.

He told them at a full council meeting starting at 1pm that the southeastern Queensland bid had identified the venues needed and they all existed.

Mr Coates said the Coast could be in line for “seven or eight sports” including rowing and canoeing.

The Coast could benefit by having a village for up to 3000 athletes “similar to what you had at Griffith for the Commonwealth Games”.

“There will be a review of all the options, including Coomera,” Mr Coates said, when talking about rowing and canoeing.

Handballing could be held at the Coomera Indoor Centre.

The swimming marathon could be staged at the Broadwater Parklands, as would the triathlon. Race walking and the athletes’ marathon would also be held at the Broadwater Parklands.

Golf could be held at Royal Pines. Football preliminary finals could be played at CBUS Stadium.

The Coast would be updated in 2021-22 on the status of the bid.
