A FIRE ban has been declared for the second consecutive day following a chaotic fire on Monday, which saw firefighters work through the night.

The Chief Fire Control Officer, Bushfires NT and the Director, NT Fire and Rescue Service have declared the 24 hour fire ban period for Wednesday, August, 28, taking place from midnight to midnight.

The ban will cover the Darwin and Adelaide River fire weather forecast areas, the northern fire protection zone and the Daly south fire weather forecast areas, which include Darwin, Batchelor, Adelaide River and Pine Creek.

The ban means no fires can be lit or caused in the open within the fire ban areas.

An initial fire ban was called for Tuesday, after a fire in the Berry Springs area threatened 20 homes on Cox Peninsula Rd and Reedbeds Rd.

The fire was contained late Monday evening, before a second fire broke out in Noonamah, just off the Stuart Hwy.
