Hungry lunchtime crowds in the Cairns CBD will soon be able to tuck into authentic Japanese noodles at a new udon and tempura bar.

WELL priced authentic Japanese noodles for hungry lunch time crowds will soon be a reality in the Cairns CBD.
After years of working in the tourist industry Yoshinori Kishimoto has shifted gears to open an udon and tempura bar called the Hungry Wombat on the ground floor of the Orchid Plaza arcade.

“We are doing udon, ramen and soba noodles which have become very famous in Australia and are healthy,” he said.
Mr Kishimoto has completely refitted the kitchen and imported two special noodle-making machines from Japan.
Made with soup stock also imported from Japan, plain cold noodles start from $6.90 - to which toppings of tempura beans, chicken, prawns or kakiage can be added.
“And we will have Japanese tea for free at lunch time,” Mr Kishimoto said.
He expects the restaurant to be trading by Anzac Day.
