STORMY weather has put a damper on Christmas celebrations across the Gold Coast after multiple carols events were cancelled.
Both the Mudgeeraba and Oxenford Carols were scrapped yesterday afternoon after rain and storms threatened to hit the city.
Mudgeeraba councillor Glenn Tozer, dubbing himself “the Grinch”, confirmed the cancellation.
“We had a fairly large downpour at about 3pm which made everything quite soggy and wet, including the stage,” he said.
“It just created a slip hazard and an electrical hazard, and the sound and lighting team indicated they were happy to proceed but it would need to dry out.”

He added further rainfall then made it impossible for the show to go on.
Event organiser Adrian Young said it was a disappointing outcome for students from several schools slated to perform.

“(Mudgeeraba Special School) has been practising all term, actually some of the schools would have been practising longer than that,” he said.
“There were a few vendors down there still serving food in case anyone turned up.”
