EXCLUSIVE: THE high-flying son of Members Alliance founder Richard Marlborough has been criminally charged in connection to the $40 million property investment scandal.

News Corp Australia can reveal Queensland Police Service’s financial and cyber crime operation has laid a perjury charge against Gold Coast-based Braiden Marlborough.

The luxury-car-loving 27-year-old is accused of giving false testimony to a Crime and Corruption Commission investigative hearing into Members Alliance.

The alleged false testimony relates to “his knowledge of and conversations with Richard John Marlborough about the practice of pre-claims made on construction loans”.

Police have interviewed Members Alliance clients who alleged claims were submitted to lenders without their knowledge or consent.

Some customers have accused Members Alliance of forging the paperwork.

“We will be defending the (perjury) charge vigorously,” Marlborough Jnr’s lawyer Corey Cullen said.

Mr Cullen has sought to vary bail conditions preventing contact between son and father other than for business.

It is not known if he was successful. He repeatedly declined to comment.

Richard — a bankrupt who owes the taxman about $27 million — is facing fraud charges following the property investment group’s collapse in 2016.

The charges include using his position as a Members Alliance director to allegedly “dishonesty induce” ANZ to pay the company $1.75 million. He is defending all charges. They are due to be mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates Court on December 10, as are criminal cases against fellow directors Colin Macvicar and David Domingo, who are also defending their charges.

News Corp Australia photographed Marlborough Jnr just before lunchtime on Friday as he put a wheelie bin outside the unit he and aspiring triathlete wife Maighan Brown recently move to. It is two blocks from the sand at Mermaid Beach.

She was spotted in a $120,000-plus Porsche Cayenne, both after returning from swimming training and apparently on her way to work.

Ms Brown — who, like her husband, held a senior role at Members Alliance before drowned in debts — has been accused of breaching the Corporations Act by failing her director’s duty to assist the liquidator of a company which sprung from the ashes of Members Alliance. She has denied even knowing she was a director.

The private-jet-setting couple had resided in the same gated golf community as his parents.

Richard and estranged wife Deborah’s are also in the process of leaving behind the luxury of the Hope Island estate. Their mansion is on the market with an asking price of $2.6 million.

News can reveal that figure is $1 million more than it was recently valued at for the Marlboroughs.

Court documents in yet another matter show a Jones Lang LaSalle valuer put the four-bedroom property’s worth at $1.6 million — $775,000 for the 1040sqm of land and $825,000 for the “improvements”, which include a “sunken poolside swim-up wet bar”.
