Fellow MasterChef judge Andy Allen will lead the tributes to Jock Zonfrillo before the debut of the show’s new season on Sunday night.

Following the famous chef’s death last week, Mr Allen described Mr Zonfrillo as a mentor and inspiration.

Mr Allen will be interviewed on The Project during a special episode on Ten on Sunday night.

Mr Zonfrillo’s body was found at a hotel on Lygon St, in the inner-city suburb of Carlton, about 2am Monday - just hours before the new season was scheduled to air.

Channel 10 said Mr Allen would be among the world’s best chefs who would pay tribute to Mr Zonfrillo during the special episode of The Project on Sunday.

The interview will go to air at 6.30pm before the debut of the new season of MasterChef.

In a heart-wrenching post on Instagram last week, Mr Allen said: “When I met you 5 years ago I knew our lives were about to change forever.

“What I didn‘t realise is how close Alex and I would become outside of the kitchen with you, Lauren and your kids.

“You‘ve become such an inspirational and important part of our lives.

“Sure, you’ve taught me so much about food, but it’s the lessons I learnt about what it means to be a great father, husband and friend that I’ll take away from our time together and will last forever.”

Channel 10 last week announced that the new season would air despite the tragedy.

“With the full support of Jock Zonfrillo‘s family, MasterChef Australia will air at 7.30pm on Sunday, May 7,” the network said in a statement.

“MasterChef Australia judge Jock Zonfrillo took great pride in challenging and coaching the contestants and of course inspiring a nation of home cooks.

“It is with Jock in our hearts that we cherish this season and remember the charismatic and big-hearted judge and chef who we knew and loved.

“Jock will be remembered in the MasterChef Australia kitchen for years to come.”

Filming of the series was completed last month, with a winner already decided.
