21yo son of former policeman killed in brazen daylight shooting

A 21-year-old man who was shot dead in a Melbourne laneway in a brazen daylight attack was reportedly the son of a former policeman.

The son of a former police officer has reportedly been shot dead in a laneway behind a home in outer-north Melbourne, with the gunman still at large.

Police were told the victim was approached by an unknown man in a laneway behind a residential property on Champions Pde, Wollert shortly before 9am on Thursday.

The 21-year-old was shot and his attacker fled the scene in a vehicle.

The Herald Sun reported the victim is the Athan Boursinos, the son of a retired Victorian Police sergeant.

Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful and he died at the scene.

Initial investigations suggest the shooting was a targeted attack.

The Herald Sun said Athan Boursinos was reportedly an associate of exiled crime boss, Kazem ‘Kaz’ Hamad.

Mr Boursinos was due to appear in court on Thursday before he was shot, the Herald Sun reported.

Police are also investigating whether a car fire on Amery St in Reservoir a short time later is linked to the fatal shooting.
