“As Australia’s Foreign Minister, she always represented our national interests strongly, navigating often sensitive foreign policy issues.”

Ms Flutter thanked Mr Evans for his service to ANU since 2010, saying he had brought “incredible energy and intellect” to the role.

Ms Bishop served as foreign affairs minister from 2013 to 2018, while Mr Evans served as Australia’s foreign minister from 1988 to 1996 in the Hawke and Keating governments.

She stepped down from the role last August following the leadership spill to topple Malcolm Turnbull and quit politics in February ahead of the federal election.

She has also recently taken a role on the board of international development company Palladium.
