Townsville floods: Ross River Dam gates open

WITH the Ross River Dam releasing an unprecedented amount of water and rain still falling, residents in low-lying areas are urged to get to an evacuation centre.

Evacuation centres

Residents should only evacuate if safe to do so.

Townsville’s evacuation centres are:

  • North Shore Public Cyclone Shelter: 10 Iris Lane, Burdell — OPEN
  • Alligator Creek Bowls and Recreation Centre: 10 Parkland Road, Alligator Creek — OPEN
  • Heatley Public Cyclone Shelter: 321 Fulham Road, Heatley — OPEN
  • YWAM: 215 Walker Street, Townsville City — OPEN
  • Ignatius Park College: 368 Ross River Road, Cranbrook — FULL

The Bluewater Community Centre is now operating as a drop in centre until further notice. The Community Centre has been operating as an Evacuation Centre for a number of days, however has been stood down due to low numbers of residents requiring accommodation and support. The Community Centre will operate until 6pm this evening at 14 Forestry Road, Bluewater.

If you require evacuation assistance, contact SES on 132 500. If it is a life-threatening emergency call 000.

Townsville City Council is providing free sand and sandbags at the following locations.
