How much flights will cost to travel interstate to Sydney, Brisbane, Hobart when borders lift

As other state borders start to reopen to Victorians, you may be wondering how much interstate flights will cost. Here are the cheapest and most expensive destinations.

COVID travel: Can the airline industry survive coronavirus?

As Australian state borders begin to reopen to Victorians, you may wonder how much interstate flights will cost from Melbourne.

Victorians can visit New South Wales from November 23, while Queensland hinted at lifting its border to Victorians from December 1 if case numbers remain low.

Tasmania also suggested it would accept Victorian travellers without quarantining by November 27.

It’s unclear when Western Australia and Northern Territory will start accepting Melbourne travellers (regional Victorians can travel to Northern Territory but need to quarantine), although South Australia will decide on when to reopen the Victorian border on Friday.

Qantas, Virgin and Jetstar are the three airlines flying domestically within Australia.

Tiger Australia was a casualty of the pandemic, with the company discontinuing its Australian flights in September.

Virgin Australia also took a hit as a result of the pandemic, falling into voluntary administration in April which resulted in two rounds of redundancies.

The airline will exit voluntary administration on November 17, after administrators for the company obtained court approval to transfer Virgin Australia Group shares to new owners Bain Capital.

The airline has more than 600 services per week — with plans to double that by Christmas.
