SPECIALTY German-style beers are being brewed just in time for the city’s annual Oktoberfest celebrations.
Hemingway’s Brewery Cairns Wharf will host the annual event for the first time with the Cairns German Club.
Head brewer Anthony Clem said three German-style ales had been created especially for the event, which kicks off on Friday.
“The German brews include a Marzen lager that originated in Bavaria,” he said.
“This ale has a medium to full body and can vary in colour from pale through to amber to a dark brown.
“(There is also) a Dunkelweizen wheat beer that is traditionally dark with deliciously complex, blending malts and a low bitterness, and the brewery’s signature pilsner, The Prospector and Hefeweizen ale, Mr Wong.”
The team are also smoking 300 pork knuckles for the event as well as smoked bratwurst, veal schnitzel, currywurst and bretzel.
Family-friendly entertainment will also feature throughout the celebrations.
German Club vice president Marty Boigner will Saturday’s Oktoberfest event, which will include the best-dressed and keg lifting competitions.
