The Amazing Race Australia features Gold Coast's Amanda Blanks and Ashleigh Lawrence

The Gold Coast will take centre stage during the second episode of The Amazing Race Australia set to air on Tuesday night.

The Amazing Race Australia hits the Gold Coast

THEIR cane toad counting skills may not be up to scratch — but that didn't stop Gold Coast Instagrammer besties Amanda Blanks and Ashleigh Lawrence from making it through to the next round of The Amazing Race Australia.

On Tuesday night the second episode of the series aired, with iconic Gold Coast locations such as Kirra Beach and Wet’n’Wild theme park beamed into living rooms across Australia.

The dynamic duo had watched the premiere of the reality TV show at White Rhino Bar & Eats in Surfers Paradise on Monday night, with the pair saying their biggest fear was being booted off in the first leg.

They needn’t have worried, now through to at least episode three.

“It would have been really disappointing to go through the sacrifice of two weeks quarantine and then be the first team to go home. You can see the relief in our faces when we get to the Pit Stop how happy we were,” said Ms Lawrence.

“I grew up watching The Amazing Race and I have watched that intro a million times, so seeing Amanda and myself on the big screen was so surreal.”

Ms Blanks said everyone was cheering them on at the venue during the premiere.“It was just an incredible moment to finally share with all our friends and family,” she said.

“I think we came across slightly better than we expected. It was pretty funny to watch us back, especially the cane toad scene where things got a bit heated and lots of mistakes were made, we’re not the best cane toad counters that’s for sure.”

WHAT do Kirra Beach, Wet’n’Wild and Southport’s Telstra Innovation Centre have in common?  They’re iconic Gold Coast landmarks and attractions set to take centre stage during the second episode of The Amazing Race Australia set to air on Tuesday night.

Thrills and spills are promised, with Gold Coast Instagrammer models and besties Amanda Blanks, 29, and Ashleigh Lawrence, 31, expected to have the home advantage.

The 14 teams land in the nation’s ‘adrenaline capital’ and must find their way to Kirra Beach and perform a series of challenges with the city’s iconic lifesavers.

Huge surf makes for a nail biting challenge where teams take a crash-course in lifesaving in order to use an IRB to locate certain buoys.

Once finished they must choose between learning a synchronised swim routine, judged by Australian Olympic coach or find a special token among thousands of booby-trapped Ugg boots.

Before the leg is over, competitors will hit a roadblock, ride dirt bikes and experience a jaw-dropping experience at Wet’n’Wild.

Rule master and host Beau Ryan returns for season two and will reveal the first twist of the series – the salvage and sabotage – at the end of the Gold Coast leg.
