Troubled AFL star Jordan De Goey’s mate Luke Dyson is set to escape their New York nightclub brawl with a $1000 fine.

The tattoo artist faced New York Criminal Court on Friday Australian time after accepting a plea deal to pay restitution of $US710 (AUD $1015.30) under the condition that he not be arrested for six months.

Dyson, originally from Melton in Melbourne’s western suburbs, struck the deal on April 5 and faced court remotely to confirm he’s paid the fine.

If he goes the next three months without being arrested, his reckless assault charge will be reduced to a violation on October 5.

In New York, a violation is not a criminal offence and the deal, once completed, would ensure he escapes their wild Halloween party without a criminal record in the United States.

Dyson addressed the court briefly during his hearing via video link only to confirm that he could hear the court.

Dyson and Collingwood player De Goey were arrested at the Dream Hotel in New York’s Chelsea in October last year during a party at the PHD nightclub.

De Goey pleaded guilty to a downgraded charge of harassment in January and was ordered to undergo anger management therapy by the same Manhattan court.

The reduced charges come after the pair were involved in an altercation with two women during the early hours of the October 30.

The Collingwood mid-fielder spent a night in jail after being charged with groping one woman and beating another at the swanky rooftop party.

But prosecutors dropped the groping charge by the time he made his first appearance. After originally pleading not guilty, De Goey entered the plea deal in January.

The off-season controversy occurred when De Goey was in the US training with his sponsor, Monster Energy.

Separately from his court obligations, De Goey made a $10,000 donation as part of an AFL sanction for conduct unbecoming.

The club also imposed an alcohol rehabilitation program on its star player.

In June, De Goey was filmed at a nightclub in Bali, Indonesia that once again raised concerns over his social behaviour while away from the club.

“I don’t condone that behaviour at all and I’ve got a lot of work moving forward,” he said in an official club-released statement.

‘I’m not a perfect person, I don’t think I ever will be, but hopefully, I can make some changes so these mistakes don’t happen again. Just on that, I would like to apologise once again,” he said.
