A spokeswoman, a day after the NT News reported no invoices had been sent out, confirmed 450 invoices had in fact been sent out.

The NT was the only jurisdiction in Australia which charged visitors for putting them up in hotels during their 14-day quarantine period.

That requirement was scrapped on Monday, with interstate visitors now able to self-isolate in accommodation of their choosing.

“Invoices will continue to be processed and issued over the coming weeks,” the spokeswoman said.

Between March 24, when the rule came into effect for international arrivals, and June 12, 1165 people were put into hotel quarantine in Darwin, Katherine and Nhulunbuy while another 1151 people were quarantined in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek.
