The upgrade features two new eateries — Japanese restaurant Misono and seafood-inspired Citrique — a pool pavilion, a Japanese whisky bar, and a lobby lounge and bar called Chapter and Verse.

The new restaurants are being overseen by experienced hospitality figure Paul Smart who has previously worked at The Ritz, London and left his position as executive chef at the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi in July to oversee the Gold Coast project.

“I’m thrilled to be working on such an exciting project and opening, which will not only debut the JW Marriott brand in the market but also bring a new level of luxury and dining experience to the Gold Coast,” he said.

“Sourcing and working with local producers from across the sunshine state to create natural and nourishing yet sophisticated menu options has been a highlight.

“I’m extremely passionate about sourcing sustainably and locally so this role was an obvious fit for me and I look forward to sharing what we’re extremely proud to have created with our future guests.”

Another feature is the JW market, a cafe which will sell local produce such as jars of the resort’s lavender honey, rosemary salt, thyme and garlic-infused olive oil and homemade chilli oil.

Gold Coast-based firm DBI, the original designer of the Marriott, was brought in to re-imagine the tower.

While the tropical design of the building’s foyer remains, the guest rooms have be given a facelift.

Resort general manager, Ravinder Dhesi said securing Mr Smart’s services to oversee the new venues was a major coup for the Gold Coast’s hospitality scene.
