Two people have been charged after allegedly smashing a stolen ute into police cars.

TWO people have been charged after allegedly smashing into two police cars in a stolen vehicle.

Officers from the Tweed/Byron Police Area Command were alerted about a stolen Holden Colorado ute travelling south on the Pacific Highway near the Queensland/NSW border about 2pm on Saturday.

Police allege the ute was near the Kennedy Dr on-ramp at Tweed Heads and started pursuit.

But the chase was over after a short time due to safety concerns.

At 2.15pm the alleged stolen ute was found in an underground car park of a unit on Thomson St in Tweed Heads.

Two vehicles from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Commandand parked in the driveway and officers approached the parked ute.

It’s alleged as a male senior constable approached, the Holden drove towards him before hitting one of the unattended police cars.

The ute was then allegedly reversed and rammed the second police car, also unoccupied, before leaving the scene.

Both police vehicles were left with extensive damage.

No one was injured.

The ute was found deserted on Island Dr and police started to search the area.

An 18-year-old woman from West Mackay was arrested on Florence Street, Tweed Heads, about 6.30pm.

She was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station and was charged with be carried in carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

The driver of the stolen ute is alleged to be a 20-year-old man from Mackay.

He was arrested at Tweed Heads hospital before 11pm and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station.

He was charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, receive property stolen outside NSW and use class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed.

Police will allege in court that the Holden Colorado was stolen from a dealership in Mackay on Wednesday.

The pair were both refused bail to appear at Lismore Bail Court on Sunday.
